Genetic Analysis of Several Quantitative Characters by Diallel Cross between Sub-species and Varieties in Brassica campestris ssp.

Abstract
Genetic analysis was conducted for plant weight, the number of leaves, length and midrib width of the largest leaf with a 7 parental diallel set of 4 sub-species in Brassica campestris ssp. The mean heterosis was highly significant in the plant weight and the width of the midrib as 61.6% and 16.4%, respectively. However, it was not significant in the number of leaves and the leaf length. The mean parental effects on plant weight and the number of leaves which are closely related to yield and quality, respectively, were very large in the line with many leaves. Heterosis was generally high in the combinations crossed with lower parents in each character. The plant weight was correlated significantly with the other three characters. The mean squares of the general and specific combining ability of the 4 characters were significantly high, and particularly those of the GCA were highly significant. The GCA effects of the parents in the 4 characters were highest in the largest parent. The broad sense heritability was generally high compared to narrow sense one. In the 4 characters the highest heritability of the broad and narrow senses was shown from the width of the midrib.
